The fun thing about Bacillus anthracis is that is creates spores. These spores can survive in the environment for long periods, even decades. They can also be transported easily (like maybe in a letter). It's the only permanent pathogen within the Bacillus genus. It's mostly considered a zoonotic disease, spread by livestock, but humans have figured out ways to make it more scary. *I can't say the name of the disease he causes on Etsy, but I'm sure you can figure it out.
